Easter Seals Walk With Me

Have you heard of Easter Seals?  Here is some information from their website:

The Story of Easter Seals

Easter Seals has been helping individuals with disabilities and special needs, and their families, live better lives for nearly 90 years. From child development centers to physical rehabilitation and job training for people with disabilities, Easter Seals offers a variety of services to help people with disabilities address life's challenges and achieve personal goals.
Easter Seals offers help, hope and answers to more than a million children and adults living with autism and other disabilities or special needs and their families each year. Services and support are provided through a network of more than 550 sites in the U.S. and through Ability First Australia. Each center provides exceptional services that are individualized, innovative, family-focused and tailored to meet specific needs of the particular community served.

At the core of the Easter Seals organization is a common passion for caring, shared by its 23,000 staff members and thousands of volunteers, and by those who support its mission. This heart-felt commitment to helping people with disabilities and their families is what Easter Seals is all about.

Here in Arizona the affiliate of Easter Seals is Southwest Human Development.  I just so happen to work for Southwest Human Development in the Head Start Department.  So this is where I heard about the Walk With Me Event.  Walk With Me is one of the ways that Easter Seals raises money for this wonderful cause.  They do have the Walk With Me event in other states too.

Anyway, the event is planned for a particular day and participants raise money to walk for this cause.  There are choose Honorary Ambassadors for the event.  You can read HERE to learn about this years Ambassador families.  Here in Arizona we go to Steele Indian School Park and walk 1.25 miles.  It is a large park and we walk around the whole park.  This is a family event and after the walk there are fun things to do.  Last year there was California Pizza Kitchen giving out pizza and salad, there was a RIF booth giving out books, CVS Caremark had one of those prize wheels, a bouncey slide for the kids and much more fun stuff.  I did the walk last year with Jayden and we are doing it again this year.  This year Jayden can actually walk some of the walk instead of just the stroller.  Last year our team was called Walk With Jayden, but this year Jayden's best friend is on the team so we are changing the team name to Walk With Jayden and Aidan... (Yes Jayden's little best friend is Aidan.  And no it was not planned we met after the boys were born.)

This years walk is scheduled for Saturday May 1, 2010 at 8:00am.  Leading up to the walk is the Walk with Me Kickoff Lunch on Thursday, March 18, 2010.  If your here in Arizona and would like to learn more then please let me know and I can get you the details.  If you want to walk then please feel free to start your own team or we are happy to have more team members with us so join our team.  If your not here in Arizona then please take the time to see where your nearest walk is HERE and look into joining.  If you don't have a walk near you or just want to donate then please feel free to sponsor Jayden and I in our walk.

I will be sure to update you on how things are going so far leading up to the walk and of course lots of pictures after the walk.  At this point I have $75 raised so far.  Before I go I will add some pictures from last years walk that I have.
