Don't Let the Bugs Bite ThermaCELL Mosquito Repellent Lantern Review & Giveaway

We have recently noticed a lot more mosquitoes around our house.  Whenever we want to go in the backyard to cook or play we are constantly smacking bugs.  After being outside for just a short 15 or 20 minutes we come inside and there are bites all over our legs.  They love the taste of Jayden so poor baby gets the worst of the bites.  But he loves to be outside so he will take the bites if he can go out and play.  I knew I needed to do something to get rid of the bugs so Jayden can play happily.  I began searching online and I didn't have to search far (I love reading other blogs) because I found ThermaCELL.  I was very happy when they agreed to do a review and a giveaway.

The ThermaCELL Patio Lantern is a small decorative lantern that operates on a single butane cartridge.  There is no open flame or hot wax, its approved by US EPA.  It is 98% effective at repelling black flies, mosquito's, and other flying pests.  It keeps pests away about 15x15 foot area, average size of a patio.  There is no smelly lotions, sprays, or oils.  The lantern itself is kind of decorative.  I think it looks nice and doesn't look a mosquito light.  You can have the lantern working with or without the light on.

I was sent the Thermacell Mosquito Patio Lantern to review.  John was very excited to use this.  The next night John went to play T-ball with Jayden in the backyard.  I got the lantern ready and took it outside.  I first hung it up on the  edge of the patio.  But I was worried it wouldn't work well that high so I took it down and put it on Jayden's picnic table.  We were outside for a little while.  There were tons of mosquito's flying around.  We all still got bit a little from them, but less then usually.  It is a big open area, bigger than the area it is designed for.  Jayden's pool still had some water in it from when he played in it earlier so that might have been a factor too.

We used it another time while playing in the back yard. Jayden was playing in the sand box and I kept the ThermaCELL close to us.  I even held it in my hand for a little time.  I saw the mosquito's buzzing around me.  We both still got a few bites, but not even close to as many as we usually do.  I think if I had 1 or 2 more it would be better since the area is bigger than the ThermaCELL Lantern is designed for.  It would be great if we just stayed on the patio, but of course with a 3 year old we can't just sit on the patio.  Jayden must move.

For the most part I am happy with the ThermaCELL Mosquito Repellent Lantern.  I think it does the job is is designed for.  I like that there is no open flame or hot wax to worry about around Jayden.  I also like that the lantern is decorative.

ThermaCELL has many products for Mosquito repelling in different situations.  They have you covered for camping, hunting, or just hanging in your backyard. I would be interested in trying the Mosquito Repellent Appliances for camping next time we go.

  4. I learned that they do not use DEET. The repellent they use is allethrin, that naturally occurs in chrysanthemum flowers.
