2011 Holiday Gift Guide Kidz Med VeraTemp Thermometer Review & Giveaway

Its getting to that time again, no not Christmas, I'm talking about cold and flu season.  Here in Arizona our temperature changes so much in a matter of days and sometimes in just a matter of hours.  This makes for lots of colds and flus going around.  Working with children everyday increases the chances of getting sick.  I had the opportunity to review the KizMed Veratemp Non Contact Thermometer.

The Kidz-Med® VeraTemp® Non-Contact Thermometer provides convenience and accuracy in a trauma-free, parent tested and FDA approved thermometer. With VeraTemp® non-contact technology, there is no need to upset, startle or wake your child when taking their temperature. The elegantly designed Kidz-Med® VeraTemp® gives instant readings in Celsius and Fahrenheit and is easy to use with fussy or combative patients. The non-contact technology also allows you to use the thermometer to take other temperatures around the home like babies bath, bottle or nursery. This superior, non-contact thermometer delivers Truth, Accuracy and Precision® ... It is temperature taking, redefined.

The Kidz-med VeraTemp has 3 modes Body, Room and Surface Temperature.  The first and most common mode is body.  The recommendation is to use it on the forehead because it is very vascular.  The VeraTemp uses a totally safe infrared technology to measure the heat radiating off of the patients forehead.  The VeraTemp meets and exceeds the high standards for accuracy.  I really like that it is non-contact.  That means you can get a temperature without touching the forehead at all.  All you have to do is aim the thermometer 2-3 inches away from the forehead.  That means you can get a child's temperature while he or she sleeps and not wake them.  This makes the thermometer priceless!!  Can you imagine not waking a sleeping, sick, whinny child!?!?

There are two more modes of the VeraTemp, room and surface.  The VeraTemp can be used to get the temperature of many other items also.  First using the room mode you can get just that the temperature of the room.  In our house the temperature often varies from room to room.  Using the VeraTemp to check the temperature of each room in our house is easy.  Surface temperature is used for many items.  When Jayden was still drinking breastmilk he wanted it warm. He did not like it to be cool.  The VeraTemp can be used to get the temperature of milk or other foods.  Although we have a bath water thermometer, the VeraTemp would reduce one more item in the home and can be used to ensure your child's bath water is not too hot.

We tried the VeraTemp a few different ways.  First I took Jayden's temperature, not sick, but checked anyway.

Then we checked the temperature of the room, well actually the hallway.

Next I microwaved some water to get it nice and hot and we checked the temperature of that.

And last Jayden wanted to take the temperature of his cat.  Not sure what a cat's temperature is supposed to be.

The VeraTemp has a couple more great features.  You might have noticed in the above pictures that the VeraTemp is red in the photo of the hot water.  The VeraTemp has 3 color modes, green for 97.3 to 99.1, Orange for 99.3 to 100.2, and Red for temperatures above 100.4.  In the instruction manual I found a chart of body temperature measurement ranges.  I didn't know that body temperatures lower as you age, and therefore children tend to run higher in normal temperature.  The VeraTemp is so easy to use, even Jayden has used it.  It registries a temperature almost immediately.  I love this product!!
