My Pregnancy Journal Week 10

Happenings of the Harper Household

Week 10

Though "he's" barely the size of a kumquat — a little over an inch or so long, crown to bottom — and weighs less than a quarter of an ounce, your baby has now completed the most critical portion of his development. This is the beginning of the so-called fetal period, a time when the tissues and organs in his body rapidly grow and mature.
He's swallowing fluid and kicking up a storm. Vital organs — including his kidneys, intestines, brain, and liver (now making red blood cells in place of the disappearing yolk sac) — are in place and starting to function, though they'll continue to develop throughout your pregnancy.
If you could take a peek inside your womb, you'd spot minute details, like tiny nails forming on fingers and toes (no more webbing) and peach-fuzz hair beginning to grow on tender skin.
In other developments: Your baby's limbs can bend now. His hands are flexed at the wrist and meet over his heart, and his feet may be long enough to meet in front of his body. The outline of his spine is clearly visible through translucent skin, and spinal nerves are beginning to stretch out from his spinal cord. Your baby's forehead temporarily bulges with his developing brain and sits very high on his head, which measures half the length of his body. From crown to rump, he's about 1 1/4 inches long. In the coming weeks, your baby will again double in size — to nearly 3 inches.

Symptoms:   Tired all the time, headaches often, crampy and bloated.  I have been lucky as I was with Jayden and had no morning sickness at all.

Weight Gain: Too much as expected.. lol!  Since I got Pregnant I have gained about 6 lbs already.  Looking like another big baby in my future.

Cravings: Not really cravings, but Ice cream or a strawberry shake sounds yummy right now.  Last week I really wanted a bean and cheese burrito from Filberto's.

Food Aversions: none other than ones I already didn't like.  John was eating Tuna the other day and I hate tuna.. said I would throw up on him, he didn't move.  :( guess my threat was not taken seriously.

What made me cry this week: Or what didn't.. Just kidding.  I am a sensitive person by nature and that is the joke at work.  One of the girls I work with always tells me, "Don't cry Nancy!" even before pregnancy.  No really I watched the last episode of Extreme Makeover Home Edition and they built 7 homes for 7 families and it was so sad.  A couple of the families lost children.  Who wouldn't cry?  Well, not Laurie my co-worker, but what normal person.. Just Kidding Laurie!

Thoughts from Jayden:  Well, since this is my first post I will give you a few thoughts.  When I first told Jayden I was pregnant I said there is a baby in mommy's tummy.  He thought a second and said, "Is there a baby in my tummy too?"  I said no, then he asked "Is there a baby in daddy's tummy?"  I said No girls can have babies in their tummy and not all girls do.  I didn't want him going around thinking all girls are pregnant.  Then a few days ago I was tickling Jayden's tummy and he said, "stop mommy your going to hurt my girl"  I said, "girl?"  He said, "yea the baby in my tummy is a girl."  The next day he was jumping on the couch at me and I said stop please that is going to hurt my tummy.  He said, "and the baby girl too."  Jayden is convinced the baby will be a girl.  We will see if he is right. Oh and last night I asked Jayden why his tummy was so big.  He told me "because mama the baby girl in there and she pushing my tummy big cause she wants to come out."  I love that he thinks there is a baby in his tummy too.

Something I am excited about:  Sleep and stretchy pants.  Since I am tired all the time I love getting sleep.  I also am getting uncomfortable in my pants and will be adding some stretchy pants soon.

  5. It's nice to get into the 2nd trimester to get over the ALWAYS tired thing. It ended for me around 14 weeks. I'm still tired, but not nearly as bad! :) Jayden's comments are cute! I hope for his sake (and yours maybe??) that you do have a girl! He seems prepared for that! :)
