My Pregnancy Journal Week 14

Week 14
Happenings of the Harper Household

This week's big developments: Your baby can now squint, frown, grimace, pee, and possibly suck his thumb! Thanks to brain impulses, his facial muscles are getting a workout as his tiny features form one expression after another. His kidneys are producing urine, which he releases into the amniotic fluid around him — a process he'll keep up until birth. He can grasp, too, and if you're having an ultrasound now, you may even catch him sucking his thumb.
In other news: Your baby's stretching out. From head to bottom, he measures 3 1/2 inches — about the size of a lemon — and he weighs 1 1/2 ounces. His body's growing faster than his head, which now sits upon a more distinct neck. By the end of this week, his arms will have grown to a length that's in proportion to the rest of his body. (His legs still have some lengthening to do.) He's starting to develop an ultra-fine, downy covering of hair, called lanugo, all over his body. Your baby's liver starts making bile this week — a sign that it's doing its job right — and his spleen starts helping in the production of red blood cells. Though you can't feel his tiny punches and kicks yet, your little pugilist's hands and feet (which now measure about 1/2 inch long) are more flexible and active.

Symptoms:   Still super tired by the end of the day, but not all day now.  Belly showing.. can't fit my regular pants or maternity pants.  I'm in the in between stage..

Weight Gain: yikes 2 lbs this week so 10lbs total so far.

Cravings: Really wanted Chinese food.. yummy.  Hubby ordered some last night.

Food Aversions: nothing

What made me cry this week: Jayden made me tear up a little.  While driving to work the other day we had a sweet conversation.. went like this:
Jayden: I always go to Nana's everyday
Me: yes everyday that mommy works you get to go to Nana's house
Jayden: But I always miss you mommy
Me: aw I miss you too, but you know I love you
Jayden: I always love you mommy

OK, so who wouldn't cry a little after that sweet little conversation.  Of course today when I told him I love you he told me No mama!  I said yes I do, he said No mama I no love you.  Thanks kid!

Thoughts from Jayden:  Jayden has been telling people that his baby sister is in my belly.  Yikes!  How do I help him understand it is very likely a boy.  But it is cute when he tells everyone.  I also love when he puts his hand or head on my tummy.

Something I am excited about:  Baby moving more and more.

  2. I wouldn't worry too much. I don't put stock in any gender predictions by ultrasound before 16 or 17 weeks because the genetalia aren't developed enough yet. Just because you see "something" between the legs at 12 weeks doesn't mean it's a boy's pee pee - girls have what looks like a pee pee at 12 weeks, too. I know someone who was told "boy" at 12 weeks only to be told "girl" at 18 weeks. They had a name picked out and everything! Oops!!! (And they did in fact have a girl.) So no worries. :-)

  3. I hope that you end up with a girl, either way I know you will be filled with joy.

  4. I think kids have an intuition that we don't. My friends little boy kept telling his mom he was having a baby sister and sure enough she just found out she is having a girl. :)
