Educational Insights Grandma's Trunk Alphabet Game Review & Giveaway

I've shared how much I love Educational Insights and all the great fun and educational products they have.  We were sent the Grandma's Trunk Alphabet Game to review.

This trunk is small, but packed with great learning opportunities.  It includes a cute "trunk" box, 26 alphabet picture cards, 26 alphabet riddle cards, and guide.  This game is for Kindergarten and up. The educational value is letter identification, phonemic awareness, alphabetical order, vocabulary development, listening skills, expressive language skills, and more.

There are 5 ways to play this game:

 1. What Comes Next? Take turns placing the letter cards in the trunk in alphabetical order.

2. Memory Time Take turns repeating the sequence of cards already in the trunk, then adding one of your own and challenging other players to remember them all, in order.

3. Grandma’s Riddles Deal the cards, then read a riddle and race to see who has the letter card that answers it!

4. Letter Sequence Memory Deal the cards and take turns putting them in the trunk in alphabetical order, repeating the items already in the trunk and challenging other players to remember them all, in alphabetical order.

5. Grandma’s Adventures Place the letter cards in the trunk and take turns pulling them out to create a cooperative story: “Once upon a time there was a grandma. She saw an iguana.”

Jayden is still 3 years old so some of the games are a little above his level.  But Jayden loves letters, games, and cards.  We pulled out the game and Jayden immediately began to identify the letters.  I then held out the cards with the picture facing Jayden and the letters on my side.  I would ask him what is this?  He would answer and I would repeat it with an emphasis of the initial sound and he would identify the letter it begins with.  I would turn the card around to reinforce he is right.  He loved this.  I was very impressed how many Jayden knew without help.  This game really helps with pre-reading skills.  We also tried some of the riddle cards and Jayden was able to identify a few without help.

I love the cards are all kept in the cute little Grandma's Trunk box, although the box is bigger than needed.  There is a little shelf that holds the cards and the box could be half the size if the shelf was removed.  The alphabet cards are in the shape of an item that begins with that letter.  Such as the k card is in the shape of a kite and has a kite on one side with the letters Kk and a kite without a letter on the reverse side.  I really like the versatility of this game.  It will get lots of use at our house for sure.
