Rubbermaid Hidden Recycler Review & Giveaway

Do you recycle?  We do.. well, I do.  John often needs help to remember.  I admit many times I get frustrated that he will just throw a can in the trash or leave it on the counter.   Well currently we use a box in the laundry room for recycles.  So you do have to open a door to get to it.  The trash or counter is just closer and easier for him I guess.  I was recently sent the Hidden Recycler by Rubbermaid to review.  I was excited to see how this works and to see if it helped John to recycle more.

The Hidden Recycler is meant to attach to the inside of the cabinet door.  It is then out of site and easy to use to limit the clutter on your counters.  It is made of a a recycled material that is strong and sturdy and is also machine washable.   When the bag gets full you just lift it out by the handle and dump it in your large recycle bin.  It easily lifts out and goes back in.  The lid attaches to the inside of a cabinet door with over the door hooks or screws.  The lid is hinged to easily lift.  The bag is 5 gallons and holds 36 uncrushed cans and will even hold gallon milk jugs.

I have limited lower level cabinets, but I did identify the cabinet I wanted to use.  I put the hooks over the door and hung the Hidden recycler.  It looked great.  I attempted to close the door and it did not close all the way.  I checked to see where it was hiding.  It turns out since my cabinets have a beveled edge the Hidden Recycler does not attach well.  When I put the hooks over the cabinet it is too big.  It does fit, but not all the way down.  So when you go to close the door it doesn't work.

I began to search for a great place to put the hidden recycler since it didn't work under my cabinets.   I was thinking the pantry, but there really wasn't room in there.  Then I realized the perfect place.  On the baby gate just next to the garbage can.  We have a baby gate between the kitchen and the dinning room/family room.  The trash can is on the other side making it easier to get to for us and harder for Jayden.  Mostly from when he was smaller and would get into it.

There is just enough room on the gate between the wall and the actual part of the gate that opens.  The hidden recycler fits perfectly across and hooks over the gate just right.  It makes it so easy to recycle.  It is not technically hidden, but that is almost better here.  John will just leave recycle items on the counter next to the trash or throw them out.  Now with the hidden recycler its right there making it easier to use.

  32. We currently only recycle cardboard and it gets broken down and thrown in the recyclable trash can. I would love to have this because then we could start recycling plastics. We have no where to sort them currently from regular trash and no room for a storage container!

We currently don't have to sot our recyclables for pick up which is nice. We can also put food scraps in with our yard waste, also nice. So yes I do recycle as much as possible. I also try to buy products with as little packaging as possible whenever I can. fromfurrin at gmail dot com

  39. Yes, we do currently recycle. We are pretty avid about it. Living in Portland, OR... our whole city is pretty eco-conscious. We currently have our plastic/can bin outside our back door & my hubs takes it down to the curb once/wk, but it's frequently raining & messy for him. It's kind of an eye sore, but better at my back door than IN my kitchen! That's why this would be so perfect ;) Thanks for the chance!
