My Pregnancy Journal ~ Week 38

Week 38

Your baby has really plumped up. She weighs about 6.8 pounds and she's over 19 1/2 inches long (like a leek). She has a firm grasp, which you'll soon be able to test when you hold her hand for the first time! Her organs have matured and are ready for life outside the womb.
Wondering what color your baby's eyes will be? You may not be able to tell right away. If she's born with brown eyes, they'll likely stay brown. If she's born with steel gray or dark blue eyes, they may stay gray or blue or turn green, hazel, or brown by the time she's 9 months old. That's because a child's irises (the colored part of the eye) may gain more pigment in the months after she's born, but they usually won't get "lighter" or more blue. (Green, hazel, and brown eyes have more pigment than gray or blue eyes.) From BabyCenter

Random Thoughts:  I am continuing to have morning energy and then a crash.  I get super tired by the evening.  And though out the day I get tired to the point I have to sit down.  I know that I should stop work already, but I really want to have more time with baby boy after he is born.  This week has been crazy because teachers are doing home visits, setting up classrooms, and parent orientation.  I have 2 new teachers this year and I am really trying to help them prepare before I leave.  We are spread so thin after one girl is leaving tomorrow so they won't have as much support.  Oh and I have another teacher that has not even been hired yet.  I feel bad for these teachers with limited support so I will try my best to give them lots now.  And next week (my last week of work) I am scheduled to be in classrooms for both AM and PM each day for the first week of school.  Anyway, baby boy was doing lots of gymnastics last night.. he was flipping all over the place.  Not sure if he is head down anymore.. yikes.. I will find out for sure tomorrow at my appointment.  He moved around so much it was hurting.  You might have noticed that I didn't post anything last night.. I was hurting so much and trying to get him to stop that when he finally did I feel asleep.  OH and I still don't have my bag packed.. I started it with a few items, but not much is in there yet.  I will work on that this weekend.

Symptoms/Medical:  Well, my feet are still very swollen.  I look at my feet and I can't even tell they are mine.  It is horrible.  They are even swollen when I wake in the morning.  I have had a few minor charlie horses when I wake up in the morning, but not too bad.

Weight Gain: 2 lbs up... 45lbs over all.

Cravings:  Super thirsty all the time.  I have been going to circle K like everyday almost and getting one of those 44 oz fountain drinks.. must be Raspberry Ice Tea and I love their crushed ice too.  I have been chewing ice also.

Food Aversions: None as usual.

What made me cry this week: I did cry a little this week.  John invited his daughter to come stay with us at random without asking.  We really don't have a place for her to stay and I was feeling emotional.  I love her, but timing is horrible.  Baby boy will be here any day and I just can't have a guest that I must entertain and all.  Plus without an extra bed or room she'd have to stay on the couch.  She is one that stays up real late and likes to sleep to noon.  Our house is up and going around 5 or 6 am daily.  I am not going out of my way to keep Jayden quite for some one on my couch.  Just too much work at this time in my pregnancy.  But most of all it upset me that he just on a whim told her without event talking to me.  I think that is a decision we should make as a family.  Needless to say she didn't come stay, she is at her boyfriends house.  I think she knows that we all get up early and knows that she will not get any sleep here, plus she wants to stay with her boyfriend.

Thoughts from Jayden:  Jayden is just as loving as ever.  He often cuddles up to me, I am sure he is feeling that baby will be here soon so he needs to get lots of cuddles in before.  He talks to baby boy often and kisses my belly too.  Yesterday out of the blue as we are walking to the mailbox he tells me, "mama when baby comes I'm going to feed him all by myself.  OK, mama.. all by myself I want to feed him."  I told him when he is a little bigger you can help feed him, but when he first comes mommy has to feed him.  Jayden gave me a look like 'I don't think so'.  But agreed to let me feed him first as long as he gets a chance to feed him too.  He really wants to be a big brother.. I hope he is just has happy and helpful when baby boy is here.  I know it will be hard on him.

Something I am excited about:  Well, last week I told you about a friend that went in to have her baby boy.. poor mama was in labor from that day on to Saturday morning.  It was a pretty long labor, but they now have a beautiful baby boy that weight in at 9lbs 6oz.  So many big babies.. hoping this guy is not as big as Jayden.  I am excited to meet this baby, but still working on getting ready so I'm happy to have a little time.  I hope to get everything done this weekend that has to be done (like clean house) and then relax for baby boys arrival.

  1. I would have gotten upset about him doing that without asking too- I'm glad she ended up not coming because you totally don't need that right now! &Jayden is so cute wanting to feed him!

  2. Girl, get that bag packed!! You'll end up going to to labor and not having it done... LOL!
While it's not easy, I think it's great you are still working. Helping out those who need it AND allowing yourself more time when baby boy is here is a great idea. One more week, you can do it!!
