New Park Opens in Peoria: Pioneer Community Park

We have been watching the progress as Peoria began building a new park just a couple miles from our house.  As we saw the progress we knew it would be a really nice park.  It is huge with a lake, baseball fields, and more.  John drove by the other day and noticed the park would be opening this weekend.  We decided that we'd get up and go to the park early Saturday morning before it got too hot.  We decided to get some breakfast from McDonald's and eat at the park, kind of a breakfast picnic.  When we arrived at the park we saw people setting up for the opening ceremony.

The boys had fun playing on the playground.  Jayden was pretending to be an American Ninja Warrior.  Evan was happy to be free to run and play.  I loved that there was no messy sand or wood chips for Evan to put in his mouth.  The ground was covered with that foam shock absorber.  The playground was right next to the splash pad that was full of fun water play.  There are Ramada's and park benches all over for seating.

After the boys played for a while we were able to watch as the Mayor, vice Mayor, and others spoke about the park and all that went into the building of the park.  They then cut the ribbon to officially open the park.

It was fun to be a part of this fun event.  Now we are excited to have such a nice park right near our home.  I'm already thinking this would not be bad for Jayden's next birthday party.  I love that the splash pad is so close to the playground.
