One of my fondest memories of Christmas growing up is making cookies and candies for the holiday. I would help my mom as she would bake lots of goodies and then sort them out to share with others for Christmas. I loved the baking, the tasting, and just being with her. I want to pass on this memory with my boys too. Although I don't do as much as she did I still bake up some favorite recipes and share with friends and family. This year I was able to add one more item to the list of goodies we made with the help of the Nostalgia Electrics Hollow Chocolate Candy Maker.
I was super excited to receive this new product from Nostalgia Electrics. It is just as the name says, it makes hollow chocolate candy. The set comes with just about everything you need except for the chocolate and a battery. You start by adding chocolate to the small heating pot. Its like a tiny crock pot. Let the chocolate melt. After a bit I stirred it to get the chocolate moving and melting. Once the chocolate is melted then just pour some chocolate into a mold of your choice. It comes with 7 different molds. It has Easter eggs, bunny, Santa Clause, presents, heart, and a teddy bear. Then snap the mold into the chocolatier spinner. Turn on the spinner and watch as it spins in all directions with flashing lights. The spinner runs on a 9Volt battery. I found that you have to be quick from adding the chocolate to getting the spinner started. As the chocolate cools it does not move as well filling the holes and gaps in the mold. After you see the chocolate has covered all the areas, stop the spinner and place the mold in the freezer for a little bit. After a few minutes or so you can remove the mold and carefully remove the chocolate from the mold. Then you can wrap in one of the included foils. Or if your want to add a tasty filling there is an injector to add a center to your chocolates.
You can choose any flavor chocolate you'd like. You can even use peanut butter or butterscotch. So far we have only used the chocolate melts. We made a few different molds including the presents, Santa Claus, and eggs. It is super easy to use and like I said you want to be fast with moving the chocolate into the mold so it doesn't cool too quick. I have not used the injector yet, but that is next. I have some Carmel melts that I can not wait to try. The chocolate is so tasty and its fun to make with the kids. Of course Jayden just wants to eat everything we make. We did make a Santa Claus for the baby sitter and her son and they loved them. My only wish is there were more molds that I could use. I'd love to be able to make chocolate for all the holidays.
