{Never} Wordless Wednesday First Sleep Over

This past weekend Jayden had his first sleep over at his best friends house.  It was a spur of the moment kind of thing.  The boys had discussed it briefly a week or two ago, but nothing was set.  Aidan had his mom call me and ask if they can sleep over at our house.  John had been sick the night before so I said it wasn't a good idea at the time.  He thought about it and called back to see if Jayden could come to his house.  Then I was hit with this big decision.  I had only been away from Jayden over night 3 nights and 2 of them was when I was having Evan in the hospital.  I suddenly became nervous and kind of sad to know he was old enough for it.  I asked Jayden if he wanted to go and he was excited at first.  Then I explained that a sleep over meant he would go there, sleep there and I was not going to be there.  He asked me why.  I said that is what a sleep over is.  He then asked if he could take his brother Evan with him.  It was sweet, but of course I said no.  First I can't go all night without both of them... and Second I could not do that to my very pregnant friend.  But Jayden decided he wanted to go.  As we were driving over there he tells me out of the blue, "I'm gonna miss you mommy."  It was sweet and I kind of worried he would not want to stay.

We got to their house and he was so excited to see his friend.  He told me he won't be scared cause he's brave.  He brought his Angry Birds Star Wars Wii game to play.  They put the game in and barely looked away.  I told Jayden I was leaving and he asked why.  I reminded him again he was going to sleep there.  He said ok and gave me hugs.  I had a harder time leaving then he did staying.  I have to admit there were a couple of tears on my drive home.  My friend took a couple of pictures of the boys sleeping and playing.

Aren't they so sweet!

This picture made me laugh.  Both because they are sitting SO close to each other and because they are playing each other's tablets.

When Evan and I picked him up the next morning he didn't want to leave.  They played a little more Angry Birds Star Wars wii some more.  My friend said he did great.  He told he once he was scared and quickly said no I'm not scared.  I can't believe my baby is growing up so quick.  Excuse me while I cry a bit.

  1. I know how you feel. My son is 7 and the only time I have been away from him was having my other 2 kids. He had a camp out at school and me and my husband couldn't make it. His best friends mom offered to take him. I was more scared then he was. I way over packed and I wanted to call every hour. In the end I got a call and some pictures before they went too sleep he was having a great time and couldn't wait to do it again. But I will admit I cried.

  2. Ugh, I dread the day my baby wants to go to her first slumber party. It looks like he had a blast though!

  3. It is such a big step, isn't it? I still remember the day my oldest son had a sleepover at my brother's house. The younger kids have never had a sleepover though, because we now live in a very urban area, and I want my kids close.
