Learning Resources Under the Sea Shells Word Problem Activity Set Review & Giveaway

I was provided the below mentioned products in order to provide a review.

I have another great product from Learning Resources to share with you today.  This is the Under the Sea Shells Word Problem Activity Set.  Jayden is already working on word problems in 1st grade.  He is really good in math, but sometimes word problems trip him up.  I thin he just doesn't take the time to think it through.  So we tried he Under the Sea Shells Word Problem Activity Set to practice.

Under the Sea Shells Word Problem Activity Set helps to bring word problems to life.  It makes them more concrete.  It has 4 clam shells and 80 counters in the shapes of crabs and sea stars.  This set is a great way to practice addition, subtraction, and finding the missing number.   The set also includes 40 double-sided word problem cards, 80 word problems in all.  The word problems come in
3 different difficulty levels.  It is for 1st grade and up and 1-4 players can play at a time.

I pulled this out with Jayden during our Fall break.  I thought it would be a fun way to practice and keep fresh on learning.  Jayden wanted to put all 4 clams in front of him even though he didn't need them all.  I read the first word problem card and Jayden began to pull the pieces needed.  With the actual items it was so much easier then just thinking in his head.  Although I was happy to see that he would try it in his head and counting on his fingers first and then check it with the counters.  Since he will not have the counters while doing word problems at school he needs to know how to do it without them.

I really do like this activity set.  It relates to what Jayden is doing in school now.  It helps to make the word problems more visual.  We are using them just for Jayden, but I like that it can be used with up to 4 children.  So it can be used in a classroom or with a family with multiple children at similar levels.  Learning Resources has so many great learning games to make learning fun.
