Kids are always looking for "treasures." I know Jayden loves finding fun treasures everywhere we go. He will find random things and deem them as treasure. He has always wanted something to help him in finding his treasures. He has actually asked for a metal detector before. When I saw that Learning Resources had one I had to add it to my list
The Primary Science Metal Detector lights up and makes a beeping sound when metal objects are detected. It has a pivoting head to make use easier. The handle is easy to grip and has a colorful design. It is great for detecting metal in a sand table, at the playground, and more. This would be great for making science discoveries.
The metal detector is small so it is not made for a child to stand and walk with it. It would need to be held close to the ground so possibly on knees or sitting. The metal detector requires 2 AAA batteries to operate. It is meant for children 3 years old and up. I know that both my boys will have a blast with this thing. They can even work together with one using the metal detector and the other digging around and searching for the treasure. It doesn't say how deep it will detect treasures, but I am thinking not very deep. Likely it requires the treasure to be at or just below he surface.
