Drowning Prevention With Private Swim Lessons At Your Home

Just yesterday I saw another heart breaking story about a child that fell in the pool and drowned.  These stories happen way too often.  Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death in the US among children under 5 years old. 9 out of 10 drowning deaths happen while a caregiver is present. Seconds really do count, just answering the phone, checking facebook, running to the bathroom, any of these things can turn into tragedy if it takes your eyes off a child near water.  It only takes 2 inches of water for a child to drown. The saddest thing about child drownings is how it is completely preventable. One of the first steps to drowning prevention is education.

Drowning prevention is a cause that Sunsational Swim School is adamant about.  More than 88% of these young tragedies can be prevented by providing children with swimming lessons and educating parents about basic water safety. Sunsational Swim School provides private swim lessons in the comfort of your own pool. You are paired with a certified instructor and lifeguard that will come to your home. They are flexible and are able to work with your schedule.

We were connected with a swim instructor named Carol. She contacted me to set up a time that was convient for us. While setting up our lesson times we also discussed each of my boys and their needs. Carol arrived on our first scheduled lesson on time and ready to start. She sat down with the boys briefly and went over the swim chart.  She showed them all the levels and what they will learn at each level as the move up.

Although my boys are different ages their skill level was not to far different so Carol started with them doing the same activities.  She went back and forth with the boys as they took turns doing the activities.  She used lots of games to have the boys work on things like pretend to be superman, reach for the toys underwater, and yell wake up under water.  The boys enjoyed the first session. They were a little hesitant to push beyond their comfort level, but Carol was very patient with them. For the second lesson Carol decided to split the boys up and do a session with each. Jayden did the first session.  He became much more confident with going under water and holding his breath for 6-8 seconds. He continued to have a hard time with swimming out to her. He has a fear of just letting go and trying it, even in the shallow water that he can reach the bottom on.  With Evan he was a little more open to trying to swim and superman out to her. He had a hard time with going fully underwater. Both the boys did well with Carol and made some progress during the two lessons.  Carol emailed me the next day after the second lesson with some tips and ideas on how to continue to work with each of the boys.

Sunsational Swim School has a 12 lesson learn to swim guarantee. They guarantee after 12 lessons a child will be able to swim back to the wall after a fall into the pool. The mission at Sunsational Swim School is: To make learning to swim more convenint, effective, safe, and consistent. Strive to instill all students with the confidence and tactics to master lifesaving water safety and swimming skills in a fast and effective manner.

I received swim lessons for my boys in exchange for an honest post about Drowning Prevention and private swim lessons with Sunsational Swim School. All thoughts and opinons are my own and not influenced in any way.

  4. This is such a good idea - we don't really have pools at home over here (my dream home would have one haha). But if we did I can see this as being a great way to teach your child. x

  5. What a wonderful service. We have a pool and a brand new grandbaby on the way. We will definitely be giving him swim instructions at an early age.

  6. I had no clue there was such a thing as private swim lessons, I should have known though it makes perfect sense. I really need lessons for my sons as they are almost 8 and 10 and barely know how to swim. It isn't something I am good at teaching them.

  11. I have had a lot of friends do this. We used the YMCA but if I did it again, I'd go with a private instructor
